Last week in photos

Last week in photos:
The beginnings of a Valentine's Day garland....

Hung from the beach trees with care....

And a sweet goodbye to a family moving back to France...

Another liter of homemade rum, this time, a mango-vanilla mix.
YUM!

Some semi-recent crafting in our house:

A guitar strap
An elephant made from Alex's old COLAS pants and part of Luc's ragged security blanket

A book sling to hang on the wall
Some better-than-Hallmark cards

A banner for Chloe's birthday....

which Luc loved too.

Happy 9th Birthday Chloe!

Mmmm cakes!

What's been going on around here

First, thanks to all who called and checked in on us during the holidays while we did not have any means of communication around here. I have concluded that in order for France Telecom or ONLY to hire a person, the requirement is having a maximum IQ of 10. That's all I could come up with to find reason of why it took 6 weeks to set up our phone line and internet connection.
Our move to St Denis was not bad, although, I was on Luc duty, so I didn't have to carry any heavy furniture.

Alex and I went back the next day to finish painting and cleaning. We ate our last cari on the floor that afternoon and then I strapped Luc to my back as I cleaned the windows. He finally fell asleep and since we couldn't take him out of the carrier without waking him, AND since we had no furniture, we placed him on an old borrowed body board where he rested peacefully for an hour.

I had planned a nice Christmas eve feast which at the last minute got shoved back into the fridge because our gas bottle ran out. Ugghh. At least I got the irish bread done and so we ate that for dinner and went to sleep. Here's our Christmas morning:

On December 28th, we celebrated a first birthday for Luc, complete with chocolate cake everywhere, friends to share it with, and an oversized stuffed animal.

In January I started sewing. A lot. Although we don't have any pictures of it. I made a large square play mat for some friends that just had a baby girl, Zoé. Then I made a rattle for the baptism of the little cutie below. It was an all day event, consisting of eating, dancing, eating, more eating, more dancing, champagne, cake, and then rounds 2 and 3 of the same.

I made some other things, like funky bathroom rugs, a guitar strap for Alex, a book sling for Luc's room, and some other things that I will eventually get pictures of and put up on here.

We also took walks and/or bike rides to a playground on the Barachois. There, Luc watched the other kids and played with Daddy's phone case. He's too young to "play" on anything, but he enjoys the atmosphere.

We also have some sad news. One of our friends who is Alex's age, found out she had breast cancer last week and immediately had surgery to remove one breast. It was very sudden and shocking to say the least. We helped out by taking care of their 2 year old, Chloé, for a couple of nights. She and Luc had a great time in the bath together. We hope Juliette's tests come back clear, and that this was all caught in time. It's alarming to me that someone so young could have that.

I think we've pretty much caught up now, and I will get back to doing some semi-regular posting. I hope some of you in the DC area are enjoying your record-breaking snowfall, because it's been quite hot here. Wanna trade?
